Cornelia Gamlem Testified On Behalf Of SHRM Before The EEOC
November 17, 2010. Cornelia Gamlem, President of GEMS Group, Ltd., testified on behalf of SHRM before the EEOC on the issue of workplace age discrimination in today’s economy. Against the backdrop of high unemployment among older Americans, the EEOC’s stated purpose was to raise awareness of age discrimination and identify effective practices to avoid it. Her testimony highlighted several effective practices including strategies to create discrimination-free workplaces that recognize the value of older workers; programs, such as flexible work arrangements, that enable employees to work longer if they choose to do so; ways to implement reductions-in-force to avoid inadvertent age-based discrimination.
